Target length

Why most scripts are too long

Scripts written for reading carry habits that don’t work out loud: introductions that announce what is coming, sentences that pile up two or three ideas, qualifiers like “basically” and “actually”, and recaps of the recap. On a vertical video every extra second is a chance for the viewer to swipe away.

The rewriter removes those first. Then, if the script is still over the target, it condenses the middle while keeping the hook, the core explanation and the call to action.

How the target length works

Durations are based on a natural narration pace of about 2.45 words per second, the pace of Motiongist voices: roughly 110 words for 45 seconds, 145 for 60 and 220 for 90. The result shows the new word count and the estimated spoken time, so you can see exactly what changed.

If you record your own voice, read the result once with a timer: everyone speaks at a slightly different pace. The [words to minutes calculator](/tools/words-to-minutes) shows the duration at five different paces.

How to use the script rewriter

Paste the script (up to 6,000 characters), choose the target length and the output language, and run. Keep “preserve my tone” on if the script has a distinctive voice. The output is editable: adjust a word or two, copy it, or send it straight to the studio to make the video.

The rewriter never adds facts. If it removes a point you need, put it back by hand, and cut something else.

Tightening tips you can apply yourself

Delete the first sentence and see if the script still works: it often does. Replace “in order to” with “to” and “a lot of” with “many”. Split any sentence with “and” in the middle. Turn lists of four into lists of three. And check that each sentence could have its own visual: if not, merge it with the one before.
