Most nonprofits have more to explain than time to film. Why the issue matters, how a program works, where a donation goes, what changed this year. That material already exists in reports and grant applications, written for people who will read twenty pages. Supporters scrolling a feed will give you a minute.

Motiongist turns those documents into short explainers with animated diagrams, numbers and titles that land on the narration. You review the storyboard before anything renders, so every figure matches your report and nothing overstates your impact.

How it works

From an impact report to a video supporters share

  1. Step 1

    Pick one message

One video, one point: the problem, one program, or what a single gift funds. Drop the section of the report that covers it, or link to the program page.

  2. Step 2

    Keep the numbers honest

The script sticks to your document. In the notes, mark the figures that must appear and anything to avoid, such as naming the people you support.

  3. Step 3

    Approve, then render

Read the free storyboard with whoever signs off on communications, then confirm the exact credit price.

  4. Step 4

Share it with a call to action

Publish to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or LinkedIn, or send a share page with a button that links to your donation form.

Example

Where a monthly gift goes, for a local food bank

What you give: “annual-report.pdf, pages 4–6. For first-time donors. Key moment: what one month of giving pays for.”

What the video shows, scene by scene

  1. 0–6 s

Hook. An empty plate fills up, item by item. Title: “What happens to your monthly gift?”

  2. 6–28 s

The problem, in the report’s words: the number of families the food bank served this year counts up on screen.

  3. 28–55 s

The journey of a donation as an animated path: donor, warehouse, volunteers sorting crates, a family collecting a box.

  4. 55–80 s

Where each dollar goes, as one bar split into the report’s spending categories, each labelled as the narration names it.

  5. 80–100 s

One program up close, the after-school meals scheme, with the report’s own figure for meals served.

  6. 100–112 s

Call to action on the closing title, “Give monthly”, with the food bank’s logo and colors.

Why Motiongist

Why it suits a small comms team

  • Your report is the source

Drop a PDF or DOCX and the script sticks to it, with a fact review before rendering. No made-up statistics.

  • Numbers people remember

Figures count up, bars split and paths draw themselves on the exact word they are spoken. Data reads faster as motion than as a table.

  • For every community you serve

Narrate in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish and Indonesian. Captions and on-screen text follow the narration language.

  • A donate button next to the video

Every video can get an unlisted share page with a button to your own URL, an optional download and an embeddable player.

  • Pay only for what you render

Start with 500 free credits. Solo is $19 a month; you see the exact cost before each video, and failed renders are refunded.

  • One report, a whole campaign

On the Team plan, an annual report splits into 2 to 12 episodes you can schedule across a campaign.

Tell it straight

Donors notice when a video overpromises. Keep each claim tied to a figure from your report, and use the avoid notes to rule out phrases your team never uses. The storyboard step is where you catch a rounded number or a claim that is stronger than the evidence.

Respect the people you serve. Motiongist draws illustrated scenes instead of using real photos, which helps when you can’t show beneficiaries, but still leave out any detail that could identify someone.

What it isn’t

It doesn’t film your programs or use your photos and footage: the only upload is your logo. If you need real-world footage of your work, pair these explainers with your own camera content, or look at done-for-you production.

What it costs

One credit balance. A short video is 400 credits, a standard one 700, a long one 1,000, plus 1 credit per 10 narrated characters for the final voice.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Do you offer nonprofit pricing?

There is no nonprofit plan at the moment. The free plan gives 500 credits to try, and paid plans start at $19 a month, with 35% off on yearly billing. See pricing.

Can we turn our annual report into videos?

Yes. Drop it as a PDF or DOCX and say which section to cover. On the Team plan, the whole report can become a series of 2 to 12 episodes.

Can several staff or volunteers work on the videos?

The Team plan includes 5 seats in one workspace. On other plans, one person creates the videos and shares them by link.

Can we add a donate link?

Yes, on the share page: add a button with your own label and URL. The post copy generated for each platform is editable too, so the link can go there as well.

Are the videos labelled as AI-generated?

Yes, and we ask you to disclose it when you publish, as the platforms do. Being upfront about it also protects your credibility with donors.
