Free video description generator

Give the title of your video, and paste the script if you have it. You get four ready-to-post captions, one each for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn, with hashtags and a call to action that fit how each platform is used.

Paste the narration for descriptions that only use facts from your video.

One video, four different captions

The same video needs different words on each platform. A YouTube description can be several paragraphs and is read by search; a TikTok caption is one or two lines next to the video; an Instagram caption works best with a short hook and a reason to save or share; a LinkedIn post needs a professional angle and a question that invites comments.

This generator writes all four from the same source, so the facts stay consistent while the tone and length change. It uses the same engine that writes post copy for finished videos inside Motiongist.

Platform limits it respects

YouTube descriptions can be up to 5,000 characters, and YouTube shows up to three hashtags above the title; if a video has more than 60 hashtags, it ignores all of them. Instagram captions can be up to 2,200 characters, and since December 2025 Instagram accepts at most five hashtags per post or reel. LinkedIn posts can be up to 3,000 characters. TikTok’s in-app limit is higher than what scheduling tools can post (2,200 characters through its API).

Want to check a caption you wrote yourself? Paste it into the [caption length checker](/tools/caption-length-checker).

How to use it

Enter the video title or topic. Paste the narration script if you have one: the descriptions will then only use facts from your script, instead of general statements about the topic. Pick the output language and generate.

Each caption has its own copy button. Read it before posting: adjust the call to action to your channel, and remove any hashtag that doesn’t describe your video.

Tips for descriptions that work

Put the most important sentence first: on every platform only the first lines are visible before “more”. Use the words people would search for, naturally, in that first sentence. Keep hashtags few and specific: they classify your video, they don’t make it go viral. On YouTube, add useful links and chapters for longer videos; on Shorts, keep it short.

Frequently asked questions

Why paste the script?

Without it, the generator only knows your title and writes general copy. With the script, every description sticks to what your video actually says.

How many hashtags should I use?

A few specific ones. Instagram accepts up to five per post since December 2025, YouTube shows three above the title, and on TikTok and LinkedIn three to five relevant tags are plenty.

Does Motiongist write this automatically for my videos?

Yes. Every video made in the studio comes with editable post copy for each platform, and you can publish directly to connected accounts.

Is it free?

Yes, no sign-up needed. Requests are limited per hour per visitor.
