Platform limits, checked in October 2026
YouTube: titles up to 100 characters and descriptions up to 5,000 (YouTube Help, “Edit video settings”). YouTube shows up to three hashtags above the title and ignores all of them on a video with more than 60 (YouTube Help, “Use hashtags for YouTube videos”). TikTok: the in-app counter allows up to 4,000 characters, but tools that post through TikTok’s Content Posting API are limited to 2,200 (TikTok for Developers).
Instagram: captions up to 2,200 characters, and since December 2025 a maximum of five hashtags on a post or reel, comments included. LinkedIn: posts up to 3,000 characters. X: 280 characters for a standard account, with every link counted as 23 characters (X developer documentation). Platforms change these numbers; each limit in the checker links to its source where one is published.
Visible length matters more than the limit
The hard limit is rarely the problem. What matters is how much people see before the text is cut with “more”: usually only the first line or two on TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn. Put the point of the post in that first sentence, and treat everything after it as optional reading.
How characters are counted
The checker counts characters the way people see them: an emoji built from several code points (a skin tone, a family, a flag) counts once. Platforms don’t all count the same way, so emoji-heavy captions can differ by a few characters from the in-app counter; keep a small margin when you are close to a limit. Hashtags are counted from the # sign, and mentions from the @ sign.
How to use the checker
Paste your caption. Each platform row shows the count, the limit and what is left; rows turn amber from 90% of the limit and red when you are over. The hashtag count is checked against platforms that cap them. Nothing leaves your browser.
