Free hashtag generator for short videos
Describe your video and pick the platform. You get up to fifteen hashtag ideas sorted by reach (broad, niche, specific) and a recommended set that respects the platform’s rules, ready to copy.
What hashtags actually do in 2026
Hashtags are labels. They help a platform understand what your video is about and let people who follow or search a tag find it. They don’t make a weak video go viral, and stuffing thirty generic tags under every post adds noise. A handful of accurate tags is what the platforms themselves recommend.
The rules have also tightened. Since December 2025 Instagram accepts at most five hashtags on a post or reel. YouTube shows up to three hashtags above the video title and ignores all hashtags on a video that has more than 60. TikTok counts hashtags toward the caption length.
Broad, niche, specific: the mix
Broad tags (#explained, #learnontiktok) have huge audiences and huge competition: one or two are enough. Niche tags name the community that cares about your topic (#personalfinance, #webdev): this is where most of your picks should come from. Specific tags describe this exact video (#compoundinterest, #dnslookup): they bring fewer but better-matched viewers.
The generator labels every suggestion so you can see the balance at a glance, and the recommended set picks from each group within the platform’s limit.
How to use the hashtag generator
Write a sentence about the video: the more precise, the better the niche and specific tags. Choose the platform (it changes the recommended number and the broad tags), the language, and generate. Click any tag to add or remove it from your set, then copy the set in one click.
Before posting, look up each tag on the platform: if it is used for something unrelated, drop it.
Common mistakes to avoid
Using the same block of tags on every video, whatever the topic. Using tags that are only popular, not relevant. Hiding hashtags in a first comment to get around limits: on Instagram, hashtags in comments count toward the same five. And putting hashtags in the middle of a sentence where they make the caption hard to read.
Frequently asked questions
How many hashtags should I use on TikTok?
TikTok doesn’t publish a hard cap, but hashtags count toward the caption length. Three to five relevant tags is a sensible default.
How many hashtags does Instagram allow now?
Five per post or reel, since December 2025. Older guides that recommend 30 are out of date.
Where do hashtags go on YouTube Shorts?
In the description (or the title). YouTube shows up to three above the title. Use the description generator to write the rest.
Are the hashtags guaranteed to be popular?
No tool can promise that: the generator suggests relevant, plausible tags, and you should check them on the platform before posting.
