Shorts are where many viewers first meet a channel, but cutting clips from a long video rarely works for explainer channels. The best moment of a twenty-minute video usually depends on the ten minutes before it. Out of context, it falls flat.
Motiongist takes a different route. Instead of clipping, it rebuilds one idea from your episode as a self-contained vertical explainer: a hook, the idea told with animated diagrams, and a pointer to the full video. You paste the relevant passage of your script, review the storyboard, and publish straight to your channel.
How it works
From one long video to several Shorts
- Step 1
Pick the ideas that stand alone
Go through your script and mark the moments that make sense on their own: a surprising fact, a clear before-and-after, a mistake people make. Each one is a Short.
- Step 2
Paste the passage
A pasted script is narrated as written, so keep the words that sound like you. Around 130 words fits a 45–60 s Short; Words to minutes checks it for you.
- Step 3
Point to the full episode
End on a line that sends viewers to the long video, and put the link in the YouTube description the studio writes for you.
- Step 4
Publish or schedule
Connect your channel, then publish now or schedule the Short for the day the full episode goes live. Publishing costs no credits.

A Short from a long video on the shipping container
What you give: “Script excerpt (about 130 words) from “How one metal box changed world trade”. Last line: the full story is on the channel.”
What the video shows, scene by scene
- 0–5 s
Hook. A busy port where sacks, barrels and crates are carried aboard one by one. Title: “Loading a ship used to take an army.”
- 5–20 s
Cargo of every shape and size gets loaded piece by piece while a clock in the corner spins.
- 20–35 s
One idea: put everything in identical steel boxes. The shapes snap into rows of containers that stack neatly on deck.
- 35–48 s
A map: in 1956, the Ideal X sails from Newark to Houston with containers on board. A dotted line traces the route.
- 48–58 s
End card: “The full story is on the channel”, with the episode title and an arrow pointing to it.

Why Motiongist
What a channel gets out of it
One look per channel
Pick Light, Night or Illustrated, or apply your channel colors and logo from the Solo plan. Every Short then looks like it belongs to you.
Built for the Shorts feed
Vertical 1080 × 1920 with everything inside the safe zones, plus word-by-word captions, music and sound effects.
Straight to your channel
Publish or schedule to YouTube from the video page. Publishing costs no credits.
Titles and descriptions written
Each video gets editable post copy for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn, so the same Short can travel beyond your channel.
Ready for a monetized channel
Paid plans remove the watermark and use final voices with a commercial license, so the Shorts can earn alongside your long videos.
Rebuild, don’t clip
A clip carries your face and your editing. A rebuilt Short carries the idea, explained from scratch in under a minute, with visuals designed for a phone screen. That is why it suits explainer, history and science channels, where the value is the explanation.
It suits vlogs, reactions and personality-driven channels much less. If people subscribe for you on camera, a faceless animated Short won’t replace a clip of you.
Keep your voice in it
Motiongist narrates with one of 8 voices, not your own. To keep your style, paste your own script: it is narrated word for word. You can also treat these Shorts as a faceless companion format next to your main videos, with its own look.

FAQ
Questions, answered
Can it cut clips from my YouTube videos?
No. It doesn’t edit footage. It rebuilds an idea from your script as a new animated Short, with its own narration and visuals.
Can it narrate in my voice?
Not today. You choose one of 8 voices; listen to them on the Voices page. Pasting your own script keeps your words.
Can I make horizontal videos for my main channel?
Not yet. Videos are vertical 9:16, made for Shorts. Horizontal 16:9 is coming soon.
Can I schedule a Short to go out with my main video?
Yes. Connect your YouTube channel and pick a date and time, or publish right away.
How many Shorts can I make a month?
It depends on length and options. A short video is 400 credits plus the final voice. Solo includes 3,000 credits a month for $19, Studio 30,000 for $49. The studio shows the exact price before each render.
