Some concepts are easier to show than to say: how the heart pumps, why you can’t add fractions with different denominators straight away, what actually changes in a chemical reaction. A short animated explainer does that in a minute or two, and students can rewatch it at home as many times as they need.

Motiongist makes those videos from material you already have. Drop in your lesson notes or a worksheet as a PDF or DOCX, or just type the question. You read the script before anything is rendered, so the explanation matches how you teach it, with your vocabulary and your examples.

How it works

From your lesson notes to a video students rewatch

  1. Step 1

    Pick one concept

One video, one idea. Type it as a question (“Why do we have seasons?”) or drop the page of your notes that covers it. Choose the beginner audience so every term gets explained in plain words.

  2. Step 2

Check the script against your lesson

Add notes such as “must show: the tilted axis” or “avoid: solstice”. In the free storyboard step, rewrite any line and swap in the example you use in class.

  3. Step 3

    Render and share

Download the MP4 and its SRT captions for your slides or learning platform, or send students a share link that plays in any browser, no account needed.

  4. Step 4

Turn a unit into a series

On the Team plan, drop a whole chapter: Motiongist splits it into short episodes, one project each, that you review before rendering.

Example

Why do we have seasons?

What you give: “Why do we have seasons? For 12-year-olds. Must show: Earth’s tilted axis. Avoid: “it’s because we get closer to the Sun”.”

What the video shows, scene by scene

  1. 0–5 s

Hook. “It’s not because Earth gets closer to the Sun.” A distance arrow between Earth and the Sun gets crossed out.

  2. 5–18 s

Earth travels around the Sun; its axis appears, tilted, with the label 23.4°.

  3. 18–32 s

Northern summer. The top half leans toward the Sun, and a beam of light lands straight on it, packed into a small bright patch.

  4. 32–45 s

Six months later. The same beam hits at a low angle and spreads over a wider patch: less energy per square metre, shorter days.

  5. 45–55 s

Recap. “Tilt, not distance”, with a split screen showing the southern hemisphere in the opposite season.

Why Motiongist

What teachers get out of it

  • Starts from your materials

PDF, DOCX, TXT or Markdown, or a link to a page you trust. When you give a source, the script sticks to it.

  • A calm voice that explains

Choose from 8 voices, including ones made for teaching, and narrate in any of 10 languages: handy for language classes.

  • Captions for every student

Word-by-word captions are part of the video, and you get an SRT file too. It works muted in a noisy room and helps students read along.

  • Share without accounts

An unlisted share link plays in any browser. You can allow downloads, add a button to your course page, or embed the player in a site.

  • Free to try

Sign-up gives 500 credits: one short video with the draft voice and a small watermark. Solo is $19 a month for 3,000 credits.

Good fits, and poor fits

It works best for concepts with a mechanism or a sequence: processes in biology, cause and effect in history, the steps of a maths method, how a technology works. Diagrams that build up one step at a time are exactly what the engine draws well.

It is less suited to anything that needs real footage, like a lab demonstration or a field trip, and to long lectures: videos run 45 to 180 seconds, so split a long topic into several short ones.

Accuracy stays your call

AI can get things wrong. With a source, the script sticks to it and a fact review runs before rendering, but read the storyboard the way you would read a textbook draft. Videos are labelled as AI-generated, and we ask you to say so when you share them.

What it costs

One credit balance. A short video is 400 credits, a standard one 700, a long one 1,000, plus 1 credit per 10 narrated characters for the final voice.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Can I try it for free?

Yes. Sign-up gives 500 credits, enough for one short video (45–60 s) with the draft voice and a small watermark. Paid plans start at $19 a month and remove the watermark. See pricing.

Can students watch without signing up?

Yes. A share link plays in any browser without an account. You can also download the MP4 and upload it wherever your students already are.

Can I use the videos in Google Classroom, Moodle or Canvas?

There is no built-in integration, but the MP4 and SRT files upload like any other video, and a share link can be pasted or embedded in a page.

How accurate are the explanations?

Give it your notes or a trusted source and the script sticks to it, with a fact review before rendering. With only a question, it writes from general knowledge, so always read the script in the storyboard step first.

Can the video be narrated in another language?

Yes: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish and Indonesian. The captions and on-screen text follow the narration language.
