Pictory alternative

A Pictory alternative for vertical explainers

Pictory turns scripts, URLs, slides and PDFs into videos you review scene by scene. Motiongist does the same review-first job for vertical shorts, with every scene drawn as motion design instead of assembled from media.

Pictory works as an AI video agent: it asks setup questions, writes a script, lets you review the scenes, then shows a preview. You can edit by chat without touching the other scenes. That flow is close to Motiongist’s, so the real question is what you want the video to look like and where it will be posted.

Motiongist makes vertical 9:16 shorts where titles, charts and diagrams are drawn for your content and animated to the voice. The Pictory facts below come from its public pages, checked on October 24, 2026.

Why look elsewhere

Why people look for a Pictory alternative

Each reason is tied to a fact from Pictory’s public pages, checked on October 24, 2026. Anything we could not confirm is marked unverified.

  1. 01

    You post mostly vertical

If your videos live on Shorts, TikTok and Reels, Motiongist is designed for 9:16 from the first scene, with every element kept inside the safe zones.

  2. 02

    You want drawn scenes

Pictory positions itself as an AI video agent working from your script, URL, slides or PDF. Motiongist draws every scene as motion design: titles, charts, diagrams and UI mock-ups.

  3. 03

You want an API or an agent to do it

From the Studio plan, Motiongist exposes a REST API, webhooks and an MCP server, each render gated by an approved quote.

Where Pictory is strong

  • 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1 on every plan.
  • Guided setup questions before the script is written.
  • Chat edits that only change the scene you target.
  • A public product roadmap, a knowledge base and an Academy.

Stay with Pictory if…

…you need landscape or square formats, or most of your videos start from slide decks.

How it works

Moving from Pictory to Motiongist

  1. Step 1

    Drop the same source

Give the PDF, DOCX, TXT or Markdown file, or the link, you would have given Pictory. The script only uses facts from that source. Slide decks need to be exported as PDF first.

  2. Step 2

    Set the audience and length

Pick who is watching (beginners, developers, ops or decision-makers) and a length of 45–60 s, 90–120 s or 150–180 s.

  3. Step 3

    Review the plan, free

Read the storyboard, rewrite lines, reorder or remove scenes. Then confirm the exact credit price; it is valid for an hour.

  4. Step 4

    Share it or post it

Send an unlisted share link with an optional button, download the MP4 and SRT, or schedule the video to your social accounts.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Motiongist cheaper than Pictory?

Pictory’s Starter was $25 a month billed yearly, or $29 monthly, when we checked. Motiongist’s Solo is $19 a month, 35% less on yearly billing. Credits and minutes don’t map one to one, so compare a typical video.

Can I make landscape or square videos?

Not yet. Motiongist is vertical 9:16 only, and 16:9 is coming soon. Pictory offers 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1 on every plan, so it is the better choice if you need those today.

Can I start from PowerPoint?

Not directly. Export the deck as a PDF and drop that in; the text on the slides becomes the source of the script.

Is there a free trial?

There is a free plan rather than a trial: 500 credits at sign-up for a first short video with the draft voice and a watermark. Pictory offered a 14-day trial with 300 credits when we checked.

Can I import my Pictory projects?

No. Reuse the original script, link or document; the storyboard is rebuilt from it in a few seconds.

Ready to make your first one?
