- 0–6 sHook. A password is typed into a login box, then a second cursor logs in with the same password. Title: “Your password leaked. Now what?”
- 6–25 sThe problem. A database icon cracks open and a long list of passwords spills out; one line, yours, lights up.

An explainer video has one job: make one idea click in a minute or two. The hard part was never the idea. It was the production: a script that fits the time, a storyboard, a voice-over, then hours of keyframing so each diagram appears on the right word. Motiongist does that production for you and leaves you in charge of what gets said.
It is built for explanations, not footage. There are no avatars and no stock clips. Every scene is vector motion design (titles, arrows, flows, charts, UI mock-ups, illustrated characters) drawn for your subject and timed to the narration, with word-by-word captions on top.
How it works
From a topic to a finished explainer
- Step 1
Start from what you have
A one-line topic, your own script, a link to an article, or a PDF, DOCX, TXT or Markdown file. Say who is watching (beginners, developers, ops people or decision-makers) and pick a length: 45–60 s, 90–120 s or 150–180 s.
- Step 2
Review the storyboard, free
Motiongist writes the script and splits it into scenes: what is said, what is shown. Edit a line, reorder scenes, add or remove one. Nothing is charged at this step, and you can skip it.
- Step 3
Confirm the exact price
Before rendering you see the credit price, line by line. The render can’t cost more than that quote. If it fails, the credits go back to your balance on their own.
- Step 4
Download, share or publish
Get a 1080 × 1920 MP4 with SRT captions, a share page and ready-made post copy. Publish now or schedule to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or LinkedIn from the video page.

What you give: “Explain two-factor authentication to people who reuse passwords. End with what to turn it on for first.”
What the video shows, scene by scene
- 0–6 s
Hook. A password is typed into a login box, then a second cursor logs in with the same password. Title: “Your password leaked. Now what?”
- 6–25 s
The problem. A database icon cracks open and a long list of passwords spills out; one line, yours, lights up.
- 25–50 s
The fix. A phone slides in next to the login box and a six-digit code counts down. The narration names it: two-factor authentication.
- 50–75 s
Why it works. A door with two locks, labelled “something you know” and “something you have”. The attacker holds only one key.
- 75–95 s
Which kind. Three cards rank SMS codes, authenticator apps and security keys, from weakest to strongest.
- 95–105 s
Takeaway. “Turn it on for your e-mail first”, as the closing title, captions highlighted word by word.

Why Motiongist
Why it works for explainers
Approve the plan before paying
The storyboard step is optional and free. Fix the order of ideas or the wording before a single frame is rendered.
Every visual lands on its word
Animations follow the narration’s word timings, and captions highlight word by word, so the video still works with the sound off.
8 voices, 10 languages
Every voice speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish and Indonesian. Paid plans render with final voices that come with a commercial license.
No surprise costs
A standard video (90–120 s) is 700 credits plus the final voice. You see the exact total before you confirm, and failed renders are refunded automatically.
Your look, not a template’s
Pick Light, Night or Illustrated, apply your colors and logo from the Solo plan, or describe a one-off look in a sentence from the Studio plan.
Scriptable when you need volume
From the Studio plan, the REST API and the MCP server let an agent in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor write, price and render explainers for you.
What makes a good explainer, and how the engine handles it
Explainers fail in predictable ways: too many ideas, jargon before context, and visuals that don’t match what is being said. Motiongist’s script writer keeps one idea per scene, uses an everyday comparison before a technical term, and ends on one takeaway.
You can steer it with notes: what must appear on screen (a diagram, a number, a tool), what to avoid, and the key moment that should stick. Those notes travel with the brief into the storyboard, so you can check they were followed before you render.
What it doesn’t do
It doesn’t film people, generate realistic avatars or pull stock footage. If you want a presenter, there is an optional animated character, an illustration that goes along with the narration. Output is vertical 9:16 for now; horizontal 16:9 is coming soon.

FAQ
Questions, answered
How long does it take to generate an explainer video?
From a few minutes to about fifteen, depending on the length and the queue. You can close the tab: you get an e-mail when the video is ready.
Can I use my own script?
Yes. Paste it and Motiongist narrates it and builds the scenes around it. Check it fits the length you want with Words to minutes.
Are the facts in the script checked?
When you give a source (a link or a document), the script sticks to it, and a fact review runs before rendering. With only a topic, the script is written from general knowledge, so read it in the storyboard step: you are the one publishing.
How much does one explainer cost?
A short video (45–60 s) is 400 credits, a standard one 700 and a long one 1,000; the final voice adds 1 credit per 10 narrated characters. Sign-up gives 500 free credits, enough for a first short video with the draft voice and a watermark. Paid plans start at $19 a month. See pricing.
Can I change the video after it is rendered?
Yes. Edit the script, the voice or the look and run a revision. It costs 50% of the base price, because only what changed is rebuilt.
Can I make horizontal explainers for YouTube?
Not yet. Videos are vertical 9:16 (1080 × 1920), sized for Shorts, TikTok and Reels with everything inside the safe zones. 16:9 is coming soon.
