A product explainer answers three questions before the viewer scrolls away: what problem is this, what does the product do about it, and what do I do next? Most teams know the answers. What they lack is the week it takes to script, storyboard, record and animate a video around them.

Motiongist works for physical and digital products alike. It draws your product as a clean illustration from your description, shows how it works as an animated flow, and narrates the whole thing with captions timed to every word. You keep control of the pitch: nothing renders until you have read the script.

How it works

From a product page to a product explainer

  1. Step 1

Describe the product, or point to it

Write one sentence, paste the pitch you already use, or give the link to your product page so the script sticks to what it says. Pick the decision-maker audience for buyers, beginner for consumers.

  2. Step 2

Say what must be on screen

Add notes like “must show: the product name and the three steps” and “avoid: claims we can’t prove”. These shape the storyboard before anything is drawn.

  3. Step 3

Review the scenes, then the price

Read the storyboard for free and fix the wording. Then confirm the exact credit quote. If the render fails, the credits come back on their own.

  4. Step 4

    Put it where buyers look

Download the MP4 for your landing page, or send a share link with a button to your pricing or buy page. Publish to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or LinkedIn with post copy written for each.

Example

A soil-moisture sensor for people who forget to water their plants

What you give: “Explain our soil-moisture sensor: it sits in the pot and pings your phone when the plant needs water. For people who keep killing houseplants.”

What the video shows, scene by scene

  1. 0–6 s

Hook. A wilting plant next to a calendar full of crossed-out watering days. Title: “Watered it. Still dead?”

  2. 6–25 s

The problem. A split screen: a pot sitting in a puddle on one side, cracked dry soil on the other, a question mark above both.

  3. 25–45 s

The product. An illustrated sensor slides into the soil; the product name appears with the one-line pitch.

  4. 45–75 s

How it works. A three-step flow builds on the narration: it measures the soil, sends the reading to the app, and the phone shows “Water me”.

  5. 75–95 s

What changes. A week laid out as seven tiles; only the two days the sensor asked for get a watering-can icon.

  6. 95–108 s

Next step. Product name, website address and a “Try it” title, with the captions still highlighting word by word.

Why Motiongist

Why it works for product videos

  • Your product, drawn for the story

Products appear as crisp vector illustrations built from your description, so the visuals stay simple and on message instead of fighting with a busy photo.

  • On brand from the first frame

Import your site’s name, logo and colors into a brand kit and apply it to titles, diagrams and captions, from the Solo plan.

  • Your pitch, checked before rendering

The free storyboard step lets marketing, sales and the founder agree on the wording before a single credit is spent.

  • A page with your button on it

Each video gets an unlisted share page with an optional call-to-action button to your own URL, an embeddable player and a view counter.

  • Post copy included

Titles, descriptions and hashtags are written for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn, ready to publish now or schedule.

Showing a product without footage

Motiongist doesn’t animate your product photos or videos: the only file you can add is your logo. Instead, it draws the product as an illustration from what you tell it. Describe the shape, the color and the one detail people should notice, and put it in the “must show” notes.

That trade-off is often a gain for explainers. A simple drawing of a sensor in a pot says “this goes in the soil” faster than a glossy close-up. If buyers need to see the real object, use the explainer for the “why” and keep your photos on the product page.

Keep every claim checkable

When you give a product page or a document, the script sticks to it and a fact review runs before rendering. Leave out words like “best” or “number one” unless you can back them up: you are the one publishing.

What it costs

One credit balance. A short video is 400 credits, a standard one 700, a long one 1,000, plus 1 credit per 10 narrated characters for the final voice.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Can I upload photos or videos of my product?

No. You can upload your logo, and the product itself is drawn as an illustration from your description. That keeps every scene in one consistent motion-design style.

How long should a product explainer be?

For a landing page or a sales follow-up, a standard video (90–120 s) leaves room for the problem, three steps and a next step. For social posts, a short one (45–60 s) with a single benefit works better.

Can it work from my product page?

Yes. Give the link and the script is based on what the page says. You still read and edit it in the storyboard step before rendering.

Can I use the video in ads and on my website?

Yes. Paid plans export without a watermark, and their final voices come with a commercial license. Videos are labelled as AI-generated, and some ad platforms ask you to disclose that too.

What does a product explainer cost?

A standard video is 700 credits plus the final voice, and you see the exact total before you confirm. Sign-up gives 500 free credits for a first short test; Solo is $19 a month for 3,000 credits. See pricing.
