  1. 0–6 sHook. A pair of headphones floats in a dark space and the camera circles it. Title: “Silence is a sound wave.”
  2. 6–24 sThe noise. A plane engine hum travels toward the ear as a glowing wave, rendered with depth so it rolls past the camera.
  3. 24–48 sInside the cup. The ear cup splits open in 3D; a tiny microphone on the outside lights up as it picks up the hum.

Some subjects are spatial. The layers inside a battery, the parts of an engine, the way a signal bounces through a building: on a flat diagram, viewers have to imagine the depth. In 3D, the camera can glide around the object, pull a layer apart, or dive inside it, and the structure explains itself.

In Motiongist, 3D is a rendering option, not a different product. You write the same brief and get the same storyboard; the engine then places the scenes in a space with perspective, shading and camera moves. It adds 100 credits to the quote, because it is heavier to render. It is not photorealistic CGI: objects stay stylised and readable, the way a good technical illustration is.

How it works

How a 3D explainer gets made

  1. Step 1

Describe the object or the process

A topic, a script or a document. Name the parts that matter in your must-show notes, like “the ear cup cut open” or “the three layers of the battery”.

  2. Step 2

    Choose 3D rendering

Pick 3D instead of 2D, then a look: Light, Night or Illustrated, your brand colors, or a custom look. The quote shows the extra 100 credits as its own line.

  3. Step 3

    Review the scenes

The storyboard is the same as in 2D: one line and one visual per scene. Fix the order or the wording for free before rendering.

  4. Step 4

    Render with camera moves

The engine adds depth, light and camera motion, then delivers a vertical MP4 with captions, music and sound effects.

What you give: “How do noise-cancelling headphones work? For curious buyers. Must show: the sound wave and its mirror image.”

What the video shows, scene by scene

  1. 0–6 s

Hook. A pair of headphones floats in a dark space and the camera circles it. Title: “Silence is a sound wave.”

  2. 6–24 s

The noise. A plane engine hum travels toward the ear as a glowing wave, rendered with depth so it rolls past the camera.

  3. 24–48 s

Inside the cup. The ear cup splits open in 3D; a tiny microphone on the outside lights up as it picks up the hum.

  4. 48–72 s

The trick. A chip creates the mirror image of the wave; the two waves meet and flatten into a straight line.

  5. 72–92 s

The limit. Low, steady sounds flatten well; a sudden voice gets through partly, shown as a spike the mirror can’t follow.

  6. 92–105 s

Takeaway. The camera pulls back to the whole headphone: “It doesn’t block noise, it cancels it.”

Why Motiongist

Why choose 3D for an explainer

  • Depth that carries meaning

Exploded views, layers and insides of objects are easier to grasp when the camera can move around them.

  • A clear surcharge

3D adds 100 credits to the base price, shown as a separate line in the quote before you confirm. Nothing hidden.

  • Same storyboard as 2D

You plan and review exactly as you would in 2D, so trying both on the same subject is easy.

  • Stylised, not uncanny

Shapes stay simple and lit like a technical illustration. No glossy stock renders, no melting objects.

  • Readable on a phone

Captions and key labels stay flat and legible on top of the 3D scene, inside the vertical safe zones.

2D or 3D: how to choose

Choose 2D for ideas that are logical rather than physical: a process, a comparison, a set of numbers. Flat motion design is crisp, quick to read and slightly cheaper.

Choose 3D when the shape of the thing is the point (hardware, anatomy, architecture, a product with parts) or when you want a more cinematic feel for a launch. If in doubt, render the same storyboard both ways and keep the one that reads better.

What it costs

One credit balance. A short video is 400 credits, a standard one 700, a long one 1,000, plus 1 credit per 10 narrated characters for the final voice.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is it photorealistic 3D?

No. It is motion design with volume: stylised objects, light and camera moves. It won’t produce realistic people, products or places.

How much more does 3D cost?

3D adds 100 credits on top of the base price (400 for a short video, 700 for a standard one) and the final voice. The studio shows the exact total before you render.

Can I turn an existing 2D video into 3D?

Yes: switch the rendering option on the project and run it again. You see the new price in the quote before confirming.

Can I show my own product model in 3D?

No. You can’t upload 3D files, photos or videos; the engine draws objects from your description. Your logo and brand colors can be applied from the Solo plan.

Is 3D available in horizontal format?

Not yet. All videos, 2D or 3D, are vertical 9:16 for now; 16:9 is coming soon.
